Leadership is not confined to elected office. The habits of accountability, communication, and service that define good leadership are built in every professional environment.
Before I held elected office, I was developing leadership skills in professional environments — learning to communicate across difference, resolve conflict under pressure, train and support colleagues, and serve customers and communities with patience and professionalism. These experiences were not secondary to my public-service work. They were foundational to it. The discipline of showing up, performing consistently, and treating every person with dignity — regardless of the setting — is the same discipline that makes a good senator, a good precinct chair, and, I believe, a good attorney.

The most important leadership lessons I carry from professional work are not technical — they are dispositional. Show up prepared. Listen before responding. Take responsibility when things go wrong. Treat every person as worthy of your full attention. These habits, practiced in professional settings, became the foundation of how I approach public service, legislative work, and civic engagement.
